The Proteomics Facility provides support to IQAC and IDAEA researchers as well as public and private institutions. We are particularly interested in separation, quantification, identification and characterization of peptides and proteins in biological and biomedical systems using two-dimensional electrophoresis and mass spectrometry techniques.

 

The laboratory has a complete system for protein separation by two-dimensional electrophoresis. For the identification and characterization of peptides and proteins, we have a MALDI-TOF/TOF mass spectrometer.

 

Services an features provided:

1) Determination of the molecular mass of proteins and peptides by mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF).

2) Identification of proteins by peptide mass fingerprint.

• In-gel tryptic digestions of 1D Bands and 2D Spots or proteins in solution.

• Peptide analysis by MALDI-TOF MS, getting the peptide maps

• Identification of proteins by peptide mass fingerprinting searching in databases.

3) Identification of proteins by peptide mass fingerprint and peptide fragmentation by mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF/TOF).

• In-gel tryptic digestions of 1D Bands and 2D Spots or proteins in solution.

• Analysis of the peptides by MALDI-TOF MS, getting the peptide maps.

• Fragmentation of peptides (1 to 3) (MS / MS)

• Search and protein identification by peptide mass fingerprint (MS data) through peptides sequence(s) (MS / MS data), or a combination of both techniques (MS + MS / MS)

4) Separation of proteins by one-dimensional electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE. Electrophoretic technique for separating proteins according to their molecular weight.

5) Separation of complex protein samples using the technique of two-dimensional electrophoresis (2D-PAGE).

This technique allows the separation of proteins based on two features: its isoelectric point (Isoelectric focusing, IEF) and molecular weight (electrophoresis under denaturing conditions, SDS-PAGE).
