{"id":7876,"date":"2023-03-10T13:01:52","date_gmt":"2023-03-10T12:01:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iqac.csic.es\/iqac-commemorates-the-womens-day-with-three-activities-that-highlight-the-role-of-women-in-science\/"},"modified":"2026-06-16T11:11:18","modified_gmt":"2026-06-16T09:11:18","slug":"iqac-commemorates-the-womens-day-with-three-activities-that-highlight-the-role-of-women-in-science","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iqac.csic.es\/en\/iqac-commemorates-the-womens-day-with-three-activities-that-highlight-the-role-of-women-in-science\/","title":{"rendered":"IQAC commemorates the Women&#8217;s Day with three activities that highlight the role of women in science"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To commemorate <strong style=\"color: #653c74;\">International Women&#8217;s Day (8 March)<\/strong>, the <strong style=\"color: #653c74;\">CID Gender Equality Committee<\/strong>, formed by members of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cid.csic.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Research and Development Center (CID)<\/a>,\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iqac.csic.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Institute for Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia (IQAC)<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idaea.csic.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA)<\/a>, have organised <strong style=\"color: #653c74;\">three different initiatives that have focused on the role of women in science<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>On March 7, <strong style=\"color: #653c74;\">Fernando del Blanco<\/strong> (CID librarian) presented a <strong style=\"color: #653c74;\">5-minute trailer<\/strong> of a future documentary he is making about female scientists in the Spanish cinema (<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/p9dju1ofDEg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong style=\"color: #653c74;\"><em>La mujer de ciencia y conocimiento en el cine espa\u00f1ol, 1896-2020<\/em><\/strong><\/a>). This work is based on a book written by him that will be published soon.<\/p>\n<p>On March 8, five female directors of CSIC institutes in Catalonia, including the former IQAC director Gemma Fabri\u00e0s, joined together at <a style=\"color: #653c74;\" href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/GradS-n7T_I\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>the round table <\/strong><em><strong>El liderazgo de las mujeres cient\u00edficas<\/strong><\/em><\/a> to discuss the <strong style=\"color: #653c74;\">challenges and experiences they have faced in such leadership positions<\/strong>. <strong style=\"color: #653c74;\">Elo\u00edsa del Pino<\/strong>, the president of CSIC, welcomed the round table explaining the sociological studies that address the difficulties of women scientists to reach leadership positions in the CSIC scientific career. The panel was formed by <strong style=\"color: #653c74;\">Teresa Moreno<\/strong> (IDAEA), <strong style=\"color: #653c74;\">Gemma Fabri\u00e0s<\/strong> (IQAC), <strong style=\"color: #653c74;\">Teresa Garnatje<\/strong> (IBB), <strong style=\"color: #653c74;\">Roser Cort\u00e9s<\/strong> (IIBB), and <strong style=\"color: #653c74;\">Elisa Mart\u00ed<\/strong> (IBMB). The debate was moderated by the scientific journalist <strong style=\"color: #653c74;\">Jes\u00fas M\u00e9ndez<\/strong> (Science Media Center Espa\u00f1a). More than 80 people attended the event and interesting questions from the audience enriched the debate.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, during these days, the <strong style=\"color: #653c74;\">photocall &#8220;We do Science!&#8221;<\/strong> was installed in the main hall of the building. The photocall was in honour of the US propaganda poster &#8220;We Can Do It!&#8221; created by J. Howard Miller in 1943 during the II World War.
