{"id":8025,"date":"2026-02-02T14:54:58","date_gmt":"2026-02-02T13:54:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iqac.csic.es\/bojos-per-les-biociencies-i-la-salut-global-consolidates-its-second-edition-with-more-students-and-a-stronger-focus-on-biosciences\/"},"modified":"2026-06-16T11:11:24","modified_gmt":"2026-06-16T09:11:24","slug":"bojos-per-les-biociencies-i-la-salut-global-consolidates-its-second-edition-with-more-students-and-a-stronger-focus-on-biosciences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iqac.csic.es\/en\/bojos-per-les-biociencies-i-la-salut-global-consolidates-its-second-edition-with-more-students-and-a-stronger-focus-on-biosciences\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cBojos per les Bioci\u00e8ncies i la Salut Global\u201d consolidates its second edition with more students and a stronger focus on biosciences"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul data-start=\"255\" data-end=\"546\">\n<li data-start=\"255\" data-end=\"403\">\n<h4 data-start=\"257\" data-end=\"403\">The initiative promoted by the Fundaci\u00f3 Catalunya La Pedrera and coordinated by the IDAEA-CSIC and the IQAC-CSIC runs from January to June 2026<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"404\" data-end=\"546\">\n<h4 data-start=\"406\" data-end=\"546\">The programme addresses human and environmental health, exploring scientific areas such as pollution, chemistry, biology and nanomedicine<\/h4>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"769\" data-end=\"1197\">The programme <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fundaciocatalunya-lapedrera.com\/ca\/bojos-ciencia\/cursos\/salut-global\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong data-start=\"783\" data-end=\"832\">Bojos per les Bioci\u00e8ncies i la Salut Global<\/strong><\/a>, coordinated by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idaea.csic.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research (IDAEA-CSIC)<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iqac.csic.es\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Institute for Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia (IQAC-CSIC)<\/a>, is part of the excellence initiative <strong data-start=\"1026\" data-end=\"1052\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fundaciocatalunya-lapedrera.com\/es\/bojos-ciencia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bojos per la Ci\u00e8ncia<\/a><\/strong>, promoted by the Fundaci\u00f3 Catalunya La Pedrera for upper secondary school students with a strong interest in science, technology and research.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1199\" data-end=\"1539\">In this second edition of the programme,<strong> the number of participants has increased compared to last year<\/strong> (21 students compared to 15), confirming the growing interest among students in this initiative, which combines <strong>high-level scientific training in human and environmental health with direct contact with researchers from IDAEA and IQAC<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1541\" data-end=\"1801\">Over <strong>16 theoretical and practical sessions taking place between January and June<\/strong>, participants will gain first-hand insight into how a research centre operates and will be able to explore potential scientific careers at a key stage in their academic journey.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"1808\" data-end=\"1867\">More students and a stronger commitment to biosciences<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1869\" data-end=\"2267\">Following the positive reception of the first edition,<strong> the programme has expanded the number of places available and incorporated more sessions coordinated by IQAC-CSIC, with the aim of strengthening the bioscience and biomedical content<\/strong> (such as nuclear magnetic resonance, drug design and photopharmacology), an area that attracts particular interest among applicants to \u201cBojos per la Ci\u00e8ncia\u201d.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2269\" data-end=\"2561\">Throughout the course, students will work alongside researchers from both centres on topics such as <strong>environmental pollution, chemical analyses, toxicology, model organisms, medicinal chemistry and environmental diagnostics<\/strong>, combining laboratory sessions, practical activities and fieldwork.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"2563\" data-end=\"2934\">\u201cThe programme offers students a fantastic opportunity to learn how a research centre operates. It is also very diverse, and they will be exposed to many research topics that are not covered in the classroom. This will give them a broad range of possibilities for the future, which we believe will be very enriching,\u201d says <strong>Ana Sotres<\/strong>, one of the programme coordinators.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 data-start=\"2941\" data-end=\"3011\">Environmental sampling to assess pollution in the Llobregat River<\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3013\" data-end=\"3328\">The programme kicked off on <strong>24 January with a first field trip to the Llobregat River<\/strong>, where researchers <strong>Carlos Barata, Liliya Sokalchuk and Alba Juli\u00e0<\/strong> showed students how environmental samples are collected in a river such as the Llobregat to assess the<strong> impact of pollution on the biodiversity of this ecosystem<\/strong>. During the activity, students learned sampling techniques, sample preparation for subsequent laboratory analysis, and how to interpret scientific results.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"3641\" data-end=\"3932\">\u201cOur aim is for students to understand how science addresses complex problems such as environmental pollution and how this affects human health, and for them to experience the day-to-day work of research in a real environment,\u201d explains <strong>Alicia S. Arroyo<\/strong>, one of the programme coordinators.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-start=\"3934\" data-end=\"4252\">\u201cBojos per les Bioci\u00e8ncies i la Salut Global\u201d offers participants the opportunity to experience science from the inside, from fieldwork to laboratory work and data analysis.
