The role: The main objective will be to study how the organization of lipids (cuticle and cortex) changes due to different cosmetic treatments such as coloring, whitening, smoothing, permanent, etc.

Dyeing, bleaching, straightening, etc. treatments will be performed on Caucasian hair fibers. Lipids will be extracted from the treated hair fibers and analyzed by TLC / FID. IR spectroscopy will be used to determine both the amount and structure of the lipids in the different fibers treated. The ATR-FTIR to give an idea of surface amounts of lipids in the fiber. But in order to have more resolution and to discern between the lipids of the cortex, cuticle and medulla, μ – FTIR synchrotron microscopy will be used at ALBA.
