KNOWLEDGE PROTECTION AND EXPLOITATION

We are committed to transforming knowledge protection into a driver of progress for the entire industrial sector.

Protecting results is the pillar that allows us to bring innovation from the laboratory to the market with security and rigor. IQAC manages an active portfolio of patents ranging from new synthetic methodologies to nanomedicines and high-precision diagnostic systems. These assets are the direct result of our strategic research lines and seek to provide answers to unresolved health, environmental, and sustainability issues.

Beyond patents, we register advanced software, methods, and models that optimize drug design and biomolecule visualization, supported by computational chemistry and biology. This intellectual capital is channeled through public-private collaboration projects and also through RD contracts with public and private entities, allowing our expertise in applied chemistry to solve industrial challenges. The impact of this activity is both scientific and technological, as it ensures that our findings become useful tools for the prevention and treatment of diseases or solutions for the pharmaceutical, chemical, or agrifood industrial sectors.

Patents

We are committed to continuing to convert cutting-edge chemistry into protected assets that drive industrial innovation and improve people’s quality of life.

IQAC manages a solid patent portfolio that acts as a pillar for transforming research into tangible solutions for the market and society. With more than 20 assets, our activity focuses on protecting innovations in fields such as nanotechnology, high-precision diagnostics, pharmaceutical biotechnology, and green chemistry. Since 2007, we have maintained a constant evolution of priority applications that scale toward international (PCT) and national phases, guaranteeing global protection of the knowledge generated in our strategic research lines.

This technological maturity translates into a high degree of transfer: we have numerous patents licensed to leading companies such as Bicosome, Arthex Biotech, or Renerbio, generating a sustained economic impact through royalties exceeding ninety thousand euros annually in recent years.

Software Methods Models

We promote responsible and open digital innovation that transforms molecular understanding into solutions for health and sustainability.

At IQAC, the development of cutting-edge software, computational models, and theoretical methods constitutes a fundamental knowledge infrastructure to accelerate chemical and biomedical innovation. The Theoretical and Computational Chemistry (QTC) group leads this field, creating digital tools that allow for the visualization of complex molecular processes and the optimization of bioactive molecule design through artificial intelligence.

Notable scientific assets include the open-source software APOST-3D for electronic structure analysis, or the Aggrescan4D platform, for predicting protein aggregation as a function of pH. These developments, often shared in repositories such as GitHub, reflect our commitment to open science and FAIR data principles, participating in global initiatives like PLUMED-NEST to ensure transparency.

R+D Contracts

We work to continue driving technological progress through rigorous, effective knowledge transfer with a clear social return.

IQAC stands out for its ability to transform cutting-edge scientific knowledge into industrial solutions through a very dynamic and specialized RD contractual activity. Over the last 10 years, the center has consolidated strategic alliances that demonstrate our technological maturity in key sectors such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, agrifood, and chemistry.

Our impact is reflected in the management of projects with high technological and economic value, with contracts exceeding two hundred thousand euros in areas such as the production of immunoreagents and the design of advanced therapies. Sustained collaborations with entities such as Interquim, Sylentis, Unisensor, or SEDQ Healthy Crops endorse our experience in the synthesis of active ingredients on an industrial scale, the development of new synthesis methods for oligonucleotides, and the creation of biological pest control systems.

With a strong international projection —where global corporations and foreign universities trust our applied research— and deep roots in the regional and national fabric of innovative SMEs, IQAC acts as a driver of competitiveness.
