The IQAC

The Institute of Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia (IQAC) is a research center of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), located in Barcelona and dedicated to excellence in Chemical Sciences research. We combine fundamental and applied research to address major societal challenges such as health, sustainability, and the development of new materials. Through innovative and multidisciplinary approaches, we promote knowledge transfer and highlight the essential role of chemistry in improving quality of life and building a more sustainable future.

Chemistry for a better life

From fundamental and applied chemical research, addressing scientific challenges through innovative and multidisciplinary strategies, our research embodies our commitment to chemistry as an essential tool for tackling major societal challenges.

Innovation and Transfer

Our goal is to contribute to the benefit of society by promoting innovation and supporting the transfer of the capabilities, knowledge and technologies developed at IQAC.

Science and society

Disseminating and sharing generated scientific knowledge, promoting evidence-based decision-making, and stimulating scientific culture and vocations are some of the goals we pursue through our scientific culture initiatives, aimed at different sectors of society.

Outreach activities

We participate in major scientific events, international days, and educational activities to bring research closer to society. We organize visits and workshops for schools, high schools, and universities, and use key dates to promote the science developed at the center.

We develop citizen science and scientific vocation promotion projects aimed at different educational audiences. These initiatives, driven in collaboration with partner entities, bring areas such as chemical biology, biomedicine, computational chemistry, global health, and the environmental impact of science to primary and high school students.
