Sergi Vela Llausi

Tenured Scientist

I am a computational chemist with research interests in quantum chemistry, artificial intelligence, and software development. I obtained my PhD in 2014 from the Department of Physical Chemistry at the University of Barcelona (UB), under the supervision of Prof. Juan J. Novoa and Dr. Mercè Deumal. After that, I moved to Strasbourg, where I spent three and a half years at the Laboratoire de Chimie Quantique. Subsequently, I obtained a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship to join the Laboratory of Computational Molecular Design (LCMD) at EPFL in Lausanne, where I worked for four years.

MELINA develops artificial intelligence and machine learning tools to improve how nanomedicines are designed, produced, and evaluated. By integrating chemical, physicochemical, and biological data, the project seeks to predict nanoparticle behavior more efficiently and accelerate the development of safer and more effective therapies.
