Representatives from Canada visit IQAC

The Institute for Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia (IQAC-CSIC) with its Steering Committee had the pleasure of receiving the visit of Karra-Lee Gerrits, Consul and Trade Commissioner Attaché, and Aurora Polo, Trade Commissioner, from the Consulate of Canada in Barcelona, in a session organized by the Excellence and Internalization Office (EIO). This visit was prompted by the adhesion of Canada to the group of Associated Countries with the capacity to participate in Pillar II of the EU’s Research and Innovation Program, Horizon Europe, making a great opportunity for the formation of consortia for future European projects.

Throughout the visit, not only IQAC-CSIC and its scientific research were presented, but also its scientific-technological transfer activities and capabilities, with emphasis on several of the international projects that are being carried out, as well as the current areas of scientific-technological interest.

In addition to the introduction to the institute by the EIO and the Steering Committee, two research groups with starkly different backgrounds also presented their lines of research and collaboration interests: Drug Discovery and Medicinal Chemistry, a newly created group, and Nucleic Acids Chemistry, a group with a very long history. The visit concluded with a tour of the facilities, showing both the diversity of the center’s research areas, as well as its scientific-technological capabilities.

We hope to open new channels of communication to strengthen relations with Canada and explore possible synergies to facilitate collaborations between the institute and Canadian entities.
