PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY OF SURFACTANT SYSTEMS
Group Leader: Ramon Pons
The general subject of research is the physical chemistry of surfactants and surfactant based systems. Particular focus is given to dynamic transformations (emulsification and solubilisation) and to new biocompatible surfactant behaviour. The main techniques are SAXS-WAXS, Light Scattering, tensiometry, conductivity and selective electrode.
Non equilibrium processes in surfactant systems
Several techniques applied to measure the evolution of the structure of surfactant systems. Those include, for example, emulsification, solubilisation and reconstitution of vesicles.
Computational
Modelling of surfactant induced structures (like micelles and liquid crystals) and computation of SAXS scattering curves.
Instrumental
Instrumental techniques available within the group or Institute that we can apply to the characterisation of the structure of systems in the sub nanometer to the millimetre range are:
- SAXS-WAXS
- Light Scattering (Dynamic (size and Z-potential) and Static)
- Optical microscopy
- Conductivity
- Selective electrode
- Tensiometry (pendant drop and Wilhelmy plate)
- Langmuir Balance
- Rheology
